HITTING PROGRAM
You can't train in the zoo,
and expect to compete in the jungle.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
SWING DESIGN
Every hitter that walks into Alpha brings a new combination of movement patterns in with them. From the time we're old enough to pick up a bat we begin engraining our own patterns into our body's neural memory bank.

Swing Design sessions apply the principles of Motor Learning to reshape how the body performs the skill of swinging a bat. We're looking to create a swing that optimizes our batted ball outcomes specific to the type of athlete we're training. These Swing Design sessions are perfect for training phases when the athlete is removed from gameplay - most commonly during the months of September, October, November, and December.
Setting: 3-Man Groups | 1-on-1
BAT SPEED TRAINING
We're firm believers than bat speed training is critical to an athlete raising his floor. We do not think more bat speed should be the goal all the time for every hitter. The hill we're willing to die on is that a player who is capable of swinging a bat at 75 mph has the potential to compete at high levels than the player who is only capable of swinging a bat 65 mph.

Our bat speed training program includes overload/underload training, medicine ball throws, waterbag exercises, Keiser peak power exercises, and plyo ball work. We use Blast Motion to measure at track bat speed in the facility and among our remote athletes. Bat speed training, similar to swing design, is best done during training phases when the athlete is removed from gameplay - most commonly during the months of September, October, November, and December.

COMPETE
Compete days are where our mantra "you can't train in the zoo and expect to compete in the jungle" is really on display. In order to make the game feel easy, our training has to be hard.

Compete days include high velocity machine work, multi-pitch swing decision training, extreme pitch shape (ride, sink, cut, run, etc) and more. These days are meant to challenge hitters to find solutions to extreme versions of what they'll encounter in a game-setting. Compete days are introduced into off-season training in November, and gradually increase in frequency the closer the season we get.

FEEL GOOD
Whether is the day before game, you've got a showcase coming up, or you just need confidence boost at the plate, feel good days are the perfect solution. You're not going to come in and get a bunch of swing change recommendations, or get blown up by a 95 mph fastball on the hands.

Feel Good sessions focus on getting hitters into a confident rhythm with their swing. We want guys walking out of these sessions feeling like they could go 4-for-4 off an MLB all-star. Often times its pretty straightforward front toss, overhand bp, and/or bp speed machine fastballs. We'll talk through whatever is bothering the hitter, offer some advice on how to get back to what they do best, and let them find their groove. Feel Good sessions are more typical in-season or before important showcases.

IN-SEASON TROUBLESHOOTING
Similar goal as a feel good session, with more focus on fixing a specific mechanical issue. This type of session combines Feel Good with Swing Design.
Troubleshooting sessions give the hitter something concrete to work on between games and at times might just be a temporary band-aide for something that a hitter is struggling with in-game. Our hope is that these types of sessions are few and far between for our hitters, but sometimes it is needed.
